I have traveled, I have played, so many Beautiful Friends I have made. This year has been the most spontaneous year of my life and hands down the very best year I have lived on this earth. Why? Words of Wisdom from my constant teachers (my students): The answer is; "Why Not?" I was given the opportunity to fly to Austin for 17 hours. Itinerary: arrive at 1030 PM, Dance till dawn followed by AcroYoga on the cliff of a mountain overlooking the city. This was nuts! I went to go teach a ZUMBA class and shared this opportunity with my student laughing about how ludicrous it sounded. She turned around and said, "why not?" This was the most significant lesson I have learned this year. She was absolutely right. Why Not? I went.
Since this moment I have chosen to say, "why not?" I have seen, felt explored, DANCED, and most importantly made phenomenal connections with wonderful human beings in so many cities. These wonderful people many times are not even from the towns I'm visiting, who, like myself, also make the choice to say, "why not?". We have come to be known as wandering westies; a community of dancers who are passionate about traveling for west coast swing dancing.
We can always find reasons and excuses to say no. But I challenge you to find all of the reasons to say yes. To go out and LIVE. Try something new. When opportunity arises, take it! With a smile on your face and a thrill in your heart.
I danced with a man named Slawek Porowski two nights ago In Seattle at a place called China Harbour on the water overlooking the city. He asked me why I was there, and I answered promptly with,"why not?" He smiled and said, "You have figured it out my girl. When you reach my age, I promise you will not regret the things you did, but instead regret the things you didn't do. Keep doing. Keep Living. " That I will. I mean, "why not?"#Wanderingwestie Traveling in #Swayd
I shared my feelings with my mother, who, in turn shared with me, "Lovely experiences you have had. I felt the same way when I was 25. I was living in Boulder working on a masters degree when the opportunity came for my first movie, and my graduate adviser said now is the time for you to go to LA if you want to pursue your acting career. And I said, 'why not?' so out to California I came. So glad you are doing the things you love."
